Who can submit entries to the Edutain Film Festival?
Anybody and everybody, from anywhere in the world! Whether you’re an amateur, a new filmmaker, a student, or a seasoned professional, there is a category for you and we want to see and hear your ideas.
Is there a minimum age requirement for people to submit films?
No, anyone of any age is welcome, though anyone under 18 will need permission from a parent or guardian. If you would like to enter your film into the “student” category you will be asked to show us proof of your enrolment in an educational institution.
I’ve never made a short film before. Where do I start?
We’re so glad you asked! We will be holding four workshops in the next few months to help amateur filmmakers with ideas on how to use their mobile phones to make an awesome film. You don’t have to attend the workshops and are more than welcome to figure your own way out, but if you’d like some ideas and tips then please do join us. Keep an eye on the site for more details as the venues and dates are still TBC, but they will be in Taipei on weekends.
Can I submit more than one film?
Absolutely. You will need to pay the submission fee for each film you would like considered.
How much does it cost to enter?
Regular submissions before September 22nd, 2019: US$10 or NT$300 per film
Late submissions before October 12th, 2019: US$20 or NT$600 per film
How long should my film be?
All submissions need to be a minimum of 2 minutes and a maximum of 10 minutes long.
How do I submit my film?
We are only accepting digital submissions – click on the “register” tab to give us all of your details and upload your film!
What format should my submission be in?
All submissions should be MP4s, HD 1920x1080/30p,16:9, with English subtitles.
What kind of submissions are you looking for?
As long as it is about language-learning or science, and sticks to the time limits, you have complete creative freedom. The only limit is your own imagination! Whether your style is funny or quirky, edgy or classic, serious or sensational, we are intrigued to see it.
Can I submit a rough-cut or a draft?
Unfortunately not, we want to see your completed vision in all its glory.
What if my submission isn’t in English?
Not a problem! Just add in English subtitles please ☺
How old can my project be and still qualify for submission?
Your project must be less than two years old, and must never have been shown at any other film festival.
What do I get if I win?
There are cash prizes, as well as trophies and certificates, up for grabs in every category! Have a look at the “Categories” tab for details.
How do I know if my film was selected?
We will only make direct contact with successful entries, so if you haven’t heard from us by the 4th of October (the crossover event with the 48 Hour Film Festival) then unfortunately we didn’t select your project this time. Please enter again in future, we’d love to see what you come up with next!
Can I submit someone else’s work or idea?
Sorry, we can’t accept any submissions that aren’t original. By submitting your work, you are guaranteeing that it is not plagiarised or stolen and that you have the full rights to submit it as your own. You are also giving us official assurance that you own or have paid the required royalties for any music included in the video.
Do I have to have a qualification in film or education, or use professional equipment?
Nope. This festival is open to anybody, even if you’ve never held a camera before! Don’t forget we’ll be holding workshops for amateurs if you’d like a little input on how to make an award-winning film with just your smartphone and some online editing freeware.
What happens if I win but I can’t attend the awards ceremony?
Well congratulations if you’re one of our winners! It will be possible for your trophy and certificate to be sent to you.
